The SSL 2+

I don't like using the word "Best". However, in this case, it really is. This 2 channel recording interface is extremely high quality. The preamps in this are at the same level of quality as Great River, Neve, and many other $1k+ standalone preamps. The convertors are as good as they get, and the analog circuitry such as line outputs and headphone amp are also top notch.

Downsides

- maximum 2 input channels.

- the line inputs are not true line inputs, they’re just padded down and go through the preamps. This makes it impractical to use a dedicated external preamp, not that you need one anyways.

- no digital inputs or expandability.

Upside- sound quality that matches the “cost no object” best of the best recording rigs of

10 years ago, which would cost thousands of dollars.
