If you are using the stock plugins included with your DAW for your mixing and mastering, then these free plugins will give you a considerable improvement, regardless which daw you are using. Especially the eq and compressors here, because those will get used on almost every track. These are in no particular order. I compiled this list because I’m preparing to film a Video for my YouTube channel (iskrecording) demonstrating them.
- Brainworx Cleansweep V2 I use this plugin on like 90% of tracks.
- Tokyo Dawn Records Molotok Compressor One of the best compressor plugins I've used. It's my go to compressor plugin.
- Tokyo Dawn Records Slick EQ This is a great sounding EQ. I prefer it's sound over the Logic EQ. and therefore use it on most tracks.
- Cableguys Pancake 2 This plugin provides control for oscillating the left and right panning of a sound. It's a cool effect that I use at least once on most songs I mix.
- Voxengo Tube Amp OK, I'll be honest, I don't use this one. I have the Universal Audio Thermionic Culture plugin which does a similar effect but better. However.... it costs thousands of dollars to get into the UA plugins, and this plugin comes pretty close and it's totally free.
- Brainworx Sub Filter Synthesises and adds low end to a source. Fattens up a bass or kick. I probably use this at least once on every mix.
- Izotope Vocal Doubler I use this sometimes on background vocals or isntruments to provide a bit more presence.
- Softube Saturation Sometimes I'll use this one to boost the treble in a way that's different than what an EQ does.
- Baby Audio Magic Switch This plugin has only 1 control... On or Off. It adds some nice saturation and presence to an audio signal. I use it sparingly.
- Waves Factory SK-10 This is kind of like a sample replacement for kick drum, but better. It senses the transient hits of a kick drum and adds a low frequency woof. It works well for kick drums that lack bottom end.
- Izotope Ozone imager A handy tool to have for stereo imaging.
- Voxengo MSED This is more of a listening tool. Allows you to solo the mid/sides individually to hear what's going on with them. You could also use it on an aux bus with an effect to get M/S control of that effect.
